I have been a private enthusiast of Clemens Briels' art for years. Now, I gladly pass on my collection to a new owner, someone who loves his work as much as I do.
Why am I selling my Clemens Briels collection?
For years, I have been a private enthusiast of the work of Clemens Briels. What has always appealed to me is the way he uses color as a language: direct, optimistic, without detours. His Antipodism is not a style you easily forget. It is something you experience, over and over, every time you see one of his works hanging.
Over the years, I built a collection that is dear to me. The screen prints came directly from galleries during the period they were still available: "Antigua, a bay a day" (edition 132/175, 2000) and "Algunos Gentes Hacen la Comedia" (edition 97/175, 2005) are both sold-out editions of 175 pieces. You can no longer buy them new anywhere. The original painting "You carved out your name in my heart" (acrylic on canvas, 130 by 100 cm, 2004) is a 1/1 piece, and has been in management as long as I have known it. The wall object "Yellow Beard of Vegas" (edition 4/50, 2000) is one of fifty pieces worldwide.
Each work comes with a certificate of authenticity, personally signed by Clemens Briels, and the provenance of each piece is documented. That is not a formality: it is what makes a work transferable.
Now is the moment to let go of part of this collection, not because I love it any less, but precisely because I want to make room for something new. And I prefer to do this directly: from enthusiast to enthusiast, without an auction house, without gallery commissions, without detours.
