The first time I saw an artwork by Clemens Briels, I immediately felt it: this is no ordinary art. It is as if the colors lift you up, the shapes embrace you and the story touches you in a place where words are lacking.
His work made me happy, curious and deeply touched. It brought life into my spaces and lightness into my thinking. Not only because of the powerful colors or the playful compositions, but above all because of the stories that each work carries. Each title is associated with a personal memory of Clemens or his loved ones. That connection always gave me the feeling that I could be part of a larger, lively story.
What began as a love for his work grew into a real, warm friendship with Clemens himself. By buying his art I came into contact with him, and since then I have shared countless beautiful conversations, meetings and moments. His vision, his energy, his humor, it has only deepened my appreciation for his work.
Toen ik ontdekte dat Clemens ook de officiële kunstenaar van de Olympische Winterspelen in Salt Lake City in 2002 was, groeide mijn respect nog verder. Zijn werk heeft letterlijk de wereld geïnspireerd, en mij jarenlang, elke dag opnieuw.
Now, after many years of intense enjoyment, I am ready for a new chapter. I want to make room. For new energy, new art, new experience. Not because the old does not touch me anymore, but precisely because it has done so for years.
